What is a Stovetop Smoker?
A stovetop smoker is a device for smoking meat indoors. It has a base and a lid for keeping in the smoke. It will also generally have a drip pan for collecting juices, and a rack which you place your meat on. You place small wood chips in the smoker and then place the whole thing on top of the stove and cooks. You can also place most stovetop smokers inside the oven for cooking larger cuts of meat.
Why Buy a Stovetop Smoker?
In many parts of the southern USA lots of people smoke meat outside throughout the year, in purpose built smokers like the Brinkmann smoker. Unfortunately for people in the Northern US and Canada the weather means it’s just not possible to smoke food throughout the winter months, and this is where a stovetop smoker comes in. It allows you to enjoy the smoked meats you like so much without having to venture outside into the wind, rain, sleet and snow.
Stovetop Smoker Chips
There are a great number of different types of woodchips available for your stovetop smoker. One of the most popular range of chips is produced by Camerons products (which also make stovetop smokers like the popular Camerons Lil Smokey. A pint of chips will set you back just over $4 and are available in flavours and types such as: bourbon soaked oak, cherry, hickory, maple, mesquite, oak, alder, apple and pecan. If you are new to smoking we recommend their 6 sample pak woodchips which give you 1 oz each of alder, apple, cherry, hickory, oak and mesquite (this equates to around 20-25 smokings between them). Best of all it’s less than $10, so a perfect gift for someone with a stovetop smoker.
